As a daily coffee drinker, have you ever stopped to think about the last time you cleaned your coffee pot? Dark, wet places are the perfect breeding grounds for mold and mildew. You don’t want to add those nastiness to your morning coffee!
Cleaning your coffee pot is important for several reasons. Over time, mineral deposits, oils, and residue from coffee grounds can build up inside the pot, affecting the taste of your coffee and potentially harboring bacteria. Regular cleaning helps maintain the quality of your coffee, prevents any unwanted flavors from developing, and ensures that your coffee maker functions properly. It also helps extend the lifespan of your coffee pot and keeps it looking clean and presentable.
Step One:
Rinse out the pot with warm water. Fill the water chamber and run your coffee maker without any coffee grounds.
Step Two:
Soak the pot and filter bucket in warm soapy water with 1/4 cup of baking soda for 30 minutes. Pour vinegar in the water chamber and also let it sit for 30 minutes. The acid in the vinegar will help break down the bits and nasties stuck in the water chamber.
Step Three:
With a soft sponge or rag, scrub the pot and filter. You can make a baking soda paste for hard to remove stains by mixing 3:1 baking soda and water.
Step Four:
Put the pot and filter bucket back in the coffee maker and run the vinegar through twice. The disinfecting properties in vinegar will help clean out the pipes and freshen your coffee maker.
Step Five:
Pour out the vinegar and run water through the coffee maker twice using fresh water both times.
