Misty Eyes Animal Center in Hendricks County is a 100% volunteer run organization, that we now are volunteering! Starting Friday, January 20, 2022, Eckler Cleaning Services became the newest volunteer at Misty Eyes. Once a month we will be cleaning Misty Eyes’ facility to create a cleaner environment for the volunteers and pets!
Why didn’t we use bleach?
Bleach has a pH balance of 11-13. Which means it has a high level of alkalinity and makes it corrosive. Mixing bleach with almost any product can create toxic gases.
Cat pee contains ammonia. Anne Helmenstine, with Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences states that, “bleach and ammonia are noxious on their own and irritate the eyes, mouth, skin, and lungs…Mixing bleach with cleaning products can cause unconsciousness and death.” Toxic gases are just as bad for our pets as they are for us. A safe alternative is OdoBan. While we cleaned at Misty Eyes, we used OdoBan throughout the facility. This cleaner has a neutral pH balance, which means it can used on almost any surface, and is safe for pets!
