Pet-Safe At-Home Cleaners

What do you use to clean your home with pets? Do you know that a lot of commercial cleaning products are hazardous to your pets? Commercial cleaning products that are not safe for pets includes ingredients like bleach and ammonia. At Eckler Cleaning Services, we use OdoBan. Although, OdoBan is great, there are some cheaper, at-home products you can also use.

Vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, and hydrogen peroxide are great alternatives to OdoBan. With these products, that are most likely in your cabinets at home, you can make an all-purpose cleaner solution, toilet bowl and drain cleaner solution, glass cleaner, and stain remover solution.

From the American Kennel Club, here are some basic pet-safe cleaner recipes:

All-Purpose Cleaner

In a spray bottle, you want to combine equal parts of water and vinegar to create an all-purpose cleaner. If you need something a little heftier for cleaner, add a small amount of lemon juice and/or hydrogen peroxide. To break down the smell of the vinegar, add pet-safe essential oils, or steep an orange or lemon peel in the vinegar for 24 hours prior to using.

Toilet Bowl and Drain Cleaner

To clean your toilet bowls, which a pet may drink out of, or clean a drain, used a half cup of baking soda, followed by one cup of vinegar. Then allow for it to sit for about 10 minutes. For your toilet bowl, scrub with a scrub brush afterwards. For a drain, follow with boiling hot water to rinse away residual grease.

Glass Cleaner

Windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces are so hard to clean without leaving streaks. Created a solution of equal parts water and either vinegar or lemon juice in a spray bottle. Wipe with an old t-shirt, this is what we do at Eckler Cleaning Services with Sprayway glass cleaner. Wipe in up and down or side to side motion to lessen your streaks.

Stain Remover

For pet stains, mixing baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and lemon juice or vinegar to create a thick paste should be a solution to your stains. Apply to the paste to your stained surface, wipe away the reside with damp cloth. For tough stains, let sit for five to ten minutes before whipping away.

These at-home pet-safe products are great alternative to other commercial cleaners. OdoBan is also a pet-safe cleaner that you can buy instead of making at home. At Eckler Cleaning Services, we will continue to use OdoBan when cleaning our friend, Misty Eyes Animal Center.
