Preparing for spring cleaning can be a comprehensive task, but with proper planning and organization, you can make the process more efficient. Here are some tips to help you get started:
Create a cleaning schedule
Break down your cleaning tasks into manageable chunks and allocate specific time slots for each task. This will help you stay organized and focused. If you are afraid you will lose track of time, set a timer. You can break up the work into smaller tasks for each day. If you only have 20 minutes each day, that is still enough time to get a smaller task done.
Prioritize the areas that need the most attention and set achievable goals for each cleaning session. This will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed and help you stay motivated throughout the process.
Gather cleaning supplies
Take inventory of your cleaning supplies and ensure you have all the necessary tools, such as microfiber cloths, cleaning solutions, gloves, and brushes. Restock any items that are running low.
Declutter first
Before diving into deep cleaning, declutter your space. Start with one area at a time and sort items into categories like keep, donate, or discard. This will make cleaning more efficient and give you a fresh start. Want to declutter but don’t have the time? Reach out to Eckler Cleaning Services and inquire about our Organizational Services.
Now, let’s move on to a list of where to start with your Spring cleaning:
Dusting: Start from the top and work your way down, dusting surfaces, shelves, light fixtures, and ceiling fans. Don’t forget to clean about under furniture and behind appliances.
Windows and blinds: Start by dry dusting your blinds. If it has been a while since you’ve done this, they may need washed by hand. Clean windows inside and out. Take down and wash your curtains according to the care label.
Kitchen: Clean appliances, including inside the oven, microwave, and refrigerator. Wipe down cabinets, countertops, and backsplashes. Don’t forget to clean out the pantry and discard expired items. If it is before expiration dates, but you know you won’t eat it before then – make sure you donate those items to your local food pantry!
Bathroom(s): Scrub the bathtub, shower, toilet, and sink. Clean mirrors and touch points, organize bathroom essentials, and wash your bathroom rugs. You can throw your waterproof shower curtains in the washer. However, if your shower curtain is moly or old, now is the time to replace it.
Bedrooms: Launder bedding, flip mattresses, and organize closets. Dust and wipe down furniture surfaces.
Living areas: Vacuum upholstery and wipe down furniture. Don’t forget to dry dust electronics.
Deep clean floors: Vacuum carpets thoroughly, mop hard floors, and consider steam cleaning for a deeper clean (if you have the correct flooring to do so).
Remember, this is just a starting point, and you can customize the list based on your specific needs and preferences. Sometimes it is easier to take deep cleans room by room.
