Essential Cleaning Supplies Every Hendricks County Home Should Have

Picking out cleaning supplies can be a daunting task. There are some many options, brands, and styles. What do you really need to clean your Hendricks County home?

Dawn Dish Soap

An Eckler Cleaning Services favorite, Dawn Dish soap is one of the most versatile cleaners you can use. It is pH neutral which means its save for any surface. The key with using dawn dish soap is understanding that a little goes a long, long way. If you are mixing a gallon of water, you need no more than a teaspoon of Dawn.

Use dawn to clean counters, sinks, toilets, windows, floors, and more. If you find your surfaces feeling sticky or tacky after cleaning, you are using too much Dawn.

Spray Bottle

I love using a bucket of soapy water, but a spray bottle is easier and more convenient. You can mix your Dawn dish soap with water in a spray bottle for the perfect multiple purpose cleaner. 36 ounces of water and just 3 drops of dawn are all you will need. No need to buy a dozen different brand name cleaners.

Toilet Brush

You would be surprised at how many people do not own a toilet brush. Toilets should be cleaned weekly. A small squirt of dawn and a quick scrub in the bowl will keep the toilet in good shape. Toilet brushes should be replaced every 3 months and we recommend having one by every toilet.

If you have the Hendricks County hard water, use a wet pumice stone and Bar Keepers Friend before using your toilet brush to remove the hard water line.

Rags or Paper Towels

Whether you are focusing on sustainably like Eckler Cleaning Services, or you need something quick and easy, rags and paper towels are your best friends when cleaning. If you are using rags, opt for a variety of options. We like a mixture of microfiber, terrycloth, and old cotton t-shirts. Using washable options can save your wallet and our planet.

With paper towels, quality is everything. You want to use a quality absorbent paper towel when you have a mess on your hands.

Vacuum

This is one of our secrets. Skip the broom and dustpan and go straight to the vacuum. There are many options out there, so be sure to pick something with good suction. If you have both carpet and hardwood, choose a vacuum that can have its brush roll turned off or with height adjustment.

Generally, if the vacuum looks like a toy, it is one. We like to use the Bissell Clearview Pet Rewind. They are affordable, easy to clean, and not too heavy. Also, the rewindable cord is wonderful.

Mop and Bucket

There are so many options for mops. The general rule is rinse and repeat. If you are using something doesn’t give you the option to rinse like a flat mop, all you are doing is pushing around the dirt. We love our spin mop! We can rinse the mop head and change the water easily. Remember: don’t mop with dirty water or mop heads.
