At times, a client may request that we use a specific cleaning chemical in their home. OSHA requires a cleaning company to train their employees in the products we use. At Eckler Cleaning Services, we have a specific set of cleaning products we use daily.

Every chemical outside of our regular cleaners needs approval and training prior to use. Per OSHA, we have SDS sheets on file for all chemicals we use. We also have a list of additional approved chemicals, as well as unapproved chemicals.

If a client requests us to use a chemical that is not on file, a leader will need to find the SDS sheet, research the product, and train the employee in the product. Due to this process, we usually cannot add a new chemical immediately and it could take a few days for approval.

If a team member uses an approved chemical, there is a risk to damages or injury. Soft Scrub with bleach is a chemical we have been asked to use several times. First, we do not use bleach. It is toxic, dangerous, and there are better options. Second, the highly alkaline nature of the cleaner, could damage some of the surfaces that are listed on the bottle as safe to clean.

Sometimes contractors recommend a product based on limited knowledge. Contractors love to recommend Bona for hardwood floors. Bona is an oil-based polish and continued use will ruin the floors.
