Toxaway Days are a great opportunity for our community to safely and responsibly dispose of unwanted household items, while keeping our environment clean and protected. To make the most of this event, it’s important to understand what is accepted—and what isn’t.
What You Can Bring
During Toxaway Days, you are encouraged to bring common household waste that requires special disposal, including:
- Paints, stains, and varnishes
- Household cleaners and chemicals
- Pesticides and fertilizers
- Automotive fluids (oil, antifreeze, etc.)
- Batteries (including rechargeable and car batteries)
- Light bulbs (fluorescent and CFLs)
- Electronic waste (computers, phones, small electronics)
These items contain materials that should not be thrown in regular trash because they can harm the environment if not handled properly.
What You Cannot Bring
To keep the event safe and efficient, certain items are not accepted, including:
- Regular household trash and recycling
- Large appliances (unless specified by the event)
- Construction debris or building materials
- Medical waste or sharps (needles, syringes)
- Explosives, ammunition, or fireworks
- Large quantities of commercial waste
- Tires (unless explicitly stated as accepted)
If you’re unsure about a specific item, it’s best to check ahead of time or contact event organizers.
Why Proper Disposal Matters
Properly disposing of hazardous materials helps protect our community in several important ways:
- Protects the environment – Prevents harmful chemicals from entering soil and water systems
- Keeps people safe – Reduces exposure to toxic substances
- Supports recycling and reuse – Many collected items can be safely processed or repurposed
- Preserves our community – Helps keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful
By participating in Toxaway Days, you’re contributing to a healthier and more sustainable community.
