Routine cleaning of your shower curtain liner helps keep mold and mildew at bay as well as keeps your space looking fresh and clean. Monthly cleaning of your liner also reduces the soap scum and hard water buildup that becomes difficult to clean the longer it stays on the surface. If you have a list of items you clean around your house on a monthly basis, be sure to add the liner(s) to the list.
Cleaning the liner itself is fairly simple, depending on the type that you have. Certain plastic, cloth, polyester or other materials can be washed by throwing it in the washer and using detergent, a cup of white vinegar and washing on cold. Here’s an extra tip, if you add a bath towel or two, it helps scrub off the scum! If you have a laundry sink, you can fill it with warm water, a few drops of detergent and some white vinegar and just let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing.
Once the liner is out of the wash, just go ahead and put it back on your shower rod and let it dry from there. Don’t worry about wrinkles, those will come out after the next hot shower session.
We recommend you swap out your shower curtain liners every six months to a year, depending on how often you clean them. Any way you maintain your curtain liner, you will be able to notice how much brighter the inside of your shower looks with consistent cleaning.
