We’re here today to talk about washing machine filters. Did you know that yours had one? When is the last time you took it out? We’ll make this a quick read so you can go check and clean that filter!
If you have a front-loading washer, typically the filter will be located on the front of the washing machine either in a designated area you can access or under the kick strip. Removing the kick strip can be tricky, so check your manual on the best way to access the filter. For top-loading machines, they may have the filter at the bottom on the front, like the front-loading ones, or underneath the agitator. If you’re in doubt of where it is, you can always refer to the manual or search online for the model to help.
Before removing the filter from the machine, make sure you either have a large towel underneath or a small bowl. There will be water that drains when you remove the filter so you want to take it out slowly so you can control the flow of excess water.
Once you have removed the filter, check for items like coins, lint, bobby pins, etc. Give it a rinse in the sink and put it back in. Easy! It is best to clean the filter quarterly, depending on how much laundry you’re doing.
