It is important to keep an inventory on your cleaning products and when they need replaced, regardless of frequency of use. Toilet bowl brushes need replaced at least every 6 months, while air filters might need replaced more often depending on how dusty your home gets. You can always keep a list on your phone to keep track of when you replaced items, so you are always on it.
Make sure that you are changing out your dusty rags or disposable Swifter dusters when it looks dirty. Your reusable cleaning gloves that you use to wash dishes or scrub the floor also needs replaced once showing signs of degradation. It is important to rotate out these items, so you don’t accumulate bacteria and spread that around your house.
Your dish sponge should be tossed out before it starts stinking, every single week. Those are little rectangles of yuck and should be treated as such. Your dish towels should be washed daily if you frequently use them to dry clean dishes and wipe down surfaces. You can wash them less frequently if you’re only using it for drying hands or small cleaning.
If you’re using a mop head and not a swifter, those also need replaced about every three months. If it looks dirty, it is. Using a disposable mop has its advantages but isn’t the most economically friendly. You can also find replacement pads for your Swifter at the Dollar Tree and wash those after each use.
Cleaning products also have an expiration date, so make sure you are checking those a couple times a year and are taken to a Hendricks County Tox Away Event and replacing anything that is expired. Using expired cleaning products can be hazardous and also less effective at cleaning your space.
