You may have seen the recent news about an individual using Facebook to market cleaning services at a low rate. While enticing as it may sound, you want to be very careful about letting anyone into your home who claims to provide a service. If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. In this case, the individual was using cleaning services as a cover to rob the client’s homes.

As with any professional relationship, letting someone into your home should be a process that is thought through and safe for all parties involved. Reputable cleaning businesses are insured, bonded, and registered with the state so you can look up their information at any time. Many companies offer discounted services. If someone is offering a really cheap price to clean your entire house (we’re talking $100 or less) make sure you check their reviews and ratings online before jumping to make an appointment. Some of these low-cost cleaners are uninsured and inexperienced; this could lead to damage to your property, leaving you responsible for the repairs.

Many of us are a part of local neighborhood Facebook groups, and even though those are regulated by community members, it can become difficult to weed out every single scammer on the sites. Doing a small amount of due diligence will let you know if you are dealing with a legitimate person or not.

There are plenty of cleaning services out there that service your area. It is important to do your research on what company works best for you. If someone seems to be in a rush to come over and clean your house, it could mean they are eager to get into your space. You also never want to pay the service up front, unless it is a reputable company and that is their policy that they provide you. Someone could offer to clean your house for a certain amount up front and the rest after, but do so with caution.
