You may have noticed that we bring our own products when we come to clean your home. From the recycled duster pads to the mop heads to the cleaning solution, we create and make our own products to be eco-friendly and effective at cleaning. We are going to highlight a few products you can buy in the store that you should avoid using.
Windex
We know the blue liquid is advertised as a top brand window cleaning product, but it contains ammonia which can be dangerous to use. Swap that out for Sprayway Glass Cleaner. It does not contain ammonia and is way more effective and safer at cleaning your windows.
Bona
If you have hardwood floors and were told you have to use Bona, please don’t do this! Bona creates a film on your floors that traps dirt and makes the floors dirtier than before. Bona is expensive and does not clean or protect your floors. Water and a very small amount of neutral cleaner go a long way in cleaning. We recommend Zep Neutral Floor Cleaner diluted 1:64 with water. This will help extend the life of your floors and keep them sparkling clean.
Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Most toilet bowl cleaners contain bleach or other toxic corrosives. They are expensive, and there’s a better option. At Eckler Cleaning Services, we use Bar Keepers Friend (BKF), a squirt of Dawn, and a pumice stone for the tough stains. Bar Keepers is an acidic cleaner that attacks the lime and hardwater stains in your toilet, while the Dawn is a neutral surfactant that pulls away organic contaminates. It’s better on your pipes and your wallet.
We always recommend following EPA instructions and making sure you don’t mix harmful chemicals together. We are happy to answer any questions you might have about what products we use and why. Just reach out to the Eckler Cleaning team!
