Use This, Not That – part 2

When shopping, the amount of cleaning supplies available can become overwhelming. Weare going to provide you with a list of things you should use and things you can substitute or avoid altogether. Eckler Cleaning Services is always happy to answer questions about cleaning products, just ask us!

The first thing on our list is air fresheners, the aerosol ones. If your home is feeling musty or has a certain smell, your instinct might be to grab a spray air freshener and give it a nice wave through the room. These cleaners often contain chemicals that can not only be carcinogenic but can trap dirt and smells. The best way to get rid of a dingy smell is to clean the room thoroughly from top to bottom and clean the carpets. That way you are getting the source of the smell removed, and not relying on a temporary fix.

You may be familiar with silica-based cleansers like Comet or Ajax, but did you know that these powdered cleansers contain toxins that can be harmful to yourself and your family. Eckler Cleaning Services does not prefer to use these cleaners, instead we recommend Bar Keepers Friend. Make sure you are reading the containers carefully and only using products on surfaces that you know will not scratch or damage the area at all.

If you have a clogged drain, you might reach for the liquid drain cleaner. While effective, they have chemicals strong enough to dissolve tough clogs and can dissolve other things as well. Depending on how old your pipes are, the chemicals could damage them. If you get it on your skin, the cleaner can burn and if swallowed, could be fatal. An alternative option is to get a drain snake and remove the clog that way, or contact a plumber.

You do not need the heavy-commercial grade oven cleaner products every time. Most of these contain lye which is toxic and can burn if inhaled or gotten on your skin. While we love the use of oven cleaner for extreme cases. Eckler Cleaning Services loves using borax and a little bit of water mixed with dawn. Want to learn more about cleaning your oven in depth? Have your floors been looking streaky? Our favorite floor cleaner is Zep Neutral Floor Cleaner. Not only is it safe on residential floors, Zep is also pet friendly! Be cautious of online trends, as they may recommend chemicals that will damage your floors. Do not use fabric softener or tide pods on your floors. This is not the best way to get a streak-free floor.

The last thing we advise you don’t use is spot carpet cleaners. Did you know that we currently offer carpet cleaning? The best part is that our carpet cleaning solution is made from chemicals that won’t trap dirt like most cleaners do. The spot cleaner you have for those days when your furry supervisor doesn’t make it outside is not great for future stains because it has surfactants, which traps dirt to the spot. Just have Eckler Cleaner Services come over and give you an estimate on what you want carpet cleaned.

We love it when you reach out to us to ask questions about the products we are using. Please feel free to reach out and Eckler Cleaning Services would be happy to answer any questions.
