Cleaning ceiling fans are major dust collectors in your home. Even with monthly cleaning, dust will quickly gather on the blades.
1. Prepare the area: Before you start cleaning, make sure to clear the space below the ceiling fan to prevent any objects from getting dirty or damaged.
2. Turn off the fan: To ensure safety, turn off the ceiling fan and wait for the blades to come to a complete stop.
3. Use a ladder or step stool: Use a sturdy ladder or step stool to reach the fan safely. Make sure it is stable and properly placed.
4. Dusting the blades: Start by using a long-handled duster or a microfiber cloth to gently wipe away the dust from the blades. You can also use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment. Be careful not to apply too much pressure to avoid bending or damaging the blades.
5. Removing and cleaning fan covers: If your fan has removable covers, carefully take them off and clean them separately. Use warm water with a small amount of Dawn dish soap to clean the covers. Rinse and let them dry before putting them back.
6. Wipe down the motor housing: Use a damp cloth to wipe down the motor housing, being cautious not to let any moisture get inside. Make sure to clean any dirt or dust that has accumulated on the top of the motor.
7. Clean the light fixtures: If your ceiling fan has light fixtures, remove them once they have cooled and clean them separately. Use a damp cloth or a mild cleaning solution suitable for the fixture material.
8. Check and tighten screws: While you’re cleaning, check for any loose screws or attachments on the fan and tighten them if necessary. This will ensure the fan’s stability and safety.
