When it comes to maintaining a clean home, one of the biggest challenges isn’t dirt—it’s clutter. At Eckler Cleaning Services, we use a simple but highly effective guideline called the 50% Rule to ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality in every home we clean.

What Is the 50% Rule?

The 50% Rule is straightforward:

If a surface is more than 50% full, we do not move items to clean underneath. Instead, we clean around objects, focusing on visible areas and high-touch points.

If a surface is less than 50% full, we will pick up items and clean underneath them.

This approach allows our team to maintain efficiency while still delivering a high-quality clean.

Why the 50% Rule Matters

Cleaning is not just about making a space look good—it’s about doing so consistently across every home, every visit.

Without a clear rule like this, cleaners can lose significant time moving items, reorganizing surfaces, or second-guessing what should or shouldn’t be touched. The 50% Rule eliminates that confusion and keeps the focus on cleaning—not organizing.

Exceptions to the Rule

There are two important exceptions:

Kitchens and bathrooms.

These areas are high-use, high-bacteria environments. Because of that, we always clean under items on:

  • Kitchen counters
  • Bathroom counters

Even if the surface is fully covered, these areas are always addressed thoroughly.

Efficiency Is Key

Professional cleaning is about working smart, not just working hard.

We train our team to:

  • Spray the cloth instead of the surface to avoid overspray
  • Straighten items while cleaning to avoid handling them twice
  • Never move items between rooms

We are there to clean the home—not reorganize it. For example, if a toy is left in the living room, it will be placed neatly in that same room, not moved elsewhere.

What We Don’t Move or Clean

To protect our clients and our team, there are certain items we do not move or clean. These include:

  • Musical instruments and pianos
  • Electronics like TVs and computers
  • Lego displays
  • Expensive antiques
  • Guns and weapons

These items either require specialized care or carry a higher risk of damage.

The Final Step: Quality Check

Before leaving, our team always:

  • Surveys the room
  • Checks for missed areas
  • Takes before and after photos

This ensures every clean meets our standards.

The 50% Rule is one of the many ways Eckler Cleaning Services delivers consistent, reliable results. It keeps our team efficient, protects your belongings, and ensures your home gets the attention it deserves—every time.
