Not all cleaning products are created equal—and using the wrong one can make cleaning harder, or even damage surfaces.
At Eckler Cleaning Services, we train our team to understand pH levels, surface compatibility, and product purpose so every space is cleaned safely and effectively.
Why Choosing the Right Cleaner Matters
Each surface in your home reacts differently to cleaning agents. Some require neutral cleaners, while others benefit from acidic or alkaline solutions.
Using the correct cleaner:
- Reduces scrubbing time
- Improves results
- Prevents damage
Understanding pH levels is key. Lower pH products are more acidic, while higher pH products are more alkaline. Each has a specific role in cleaning.
Our Go-To Cleaning Products
Here’s a breakdown of the products we trust and how we use them.
Dawn and Water Solution (pH 7 – Neutral)
This is one of the most versatile cleaners we use.
It is safe for all surface types and works well for general cleaning. However, using too much can leave a soapy residue behind.
It’s important to note that this solution is not antibacterial and may not be strong enough for heavily soiled areas. In those cases, a more specialized cleaner is a better choice.
Mr. Clean (pH 8.2 – Slightly Alkaline)
Mr. Clean is a reliable antibacterial cleaner that works well on many surfaces, including some floors like laminate, tile, and stone.
However, it should not be used on antique furniture or natural wood floors, as it can cause damage over time.
OdoBan (pH 7 – Neutral)
OdoBan is both an antibacterial cleaner and an odor eliminator, making it a great option for non-porous surfaces.
It can also be lightly applied to fabrics and carpets to reduce odors.
However, it should never be used on porous materials like brick, unsealed cement, or unfinished wood. It also has a strong scent, which some clients may be sensitive to.
Vinegar, Water, and Dawn Solution (pH 3 – Acidic)
This solution is especially effective in bathrooms.
It breaks down soap scum and mineral deposits in showers and sinks, making it easier to clean without excessive scrubbing.
Because it is acidic, it should never be used on stone or wood surfaces.
Bar Keepers Friend (pH 1.5 – Highly Acidic)
This is a powerful cleaner used for deep cleaning.
It works well on toilets, certain sinks, and showers, especially when dealing with tough buildup.
When mixed into a paste with a small amount of Dawn and water, it becomes even more effective. However, it is abrasive and can damage surfaces if not used carefully.
It should never be used on stone or wood, and extra caution is needed around coated faucets, as it can strip finishes.
Borax (pH 10 – Alkaline)
Borax is ideal for cutting through grease and tackling heavy buildup in kitchens and stone showers.
However, it should not be used on stainless steel or wood, as it can cause damage.
Zep Neutral Floor Cleaner (pH 7 – Neutral)
This cleaner is specifically designed for floors and leaves a streak-free finish.
For best results, it should be allowed to sit briefly on very dirty areas before wiping. This reduces the need for scrubbing and improves overall effectiveness.
Work Smarter, Not Harder
The right cleaner doesn’t just clean—it makes the job easier.
At Eckler Cleaning Services, we focus on:
- Matching the cleaner to the surface
- Letting products do the work
- Avoiding unnecessary scrubbing
This approach protects your home while delivering better results.
Choosing the right cleaning product is one of the most important parts of professional cleaning. With the right knowledge and tools, you can clean more efficiently, safely, and effectively—just like the pros.
